Original Redmine bug id: 2873
Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/2873
Searchable id: yorba-bug-2873
Original author: Justin Foote
Original description:
Steps:
Select a tag from the tree
Select one photo
Select Edit, Duplicate
Result:
Shotwell creates a duplicate of the photo, but it is not displayed on screen, because it does not have the currently selected tag.
To find the duplicate, the user must search in all photos, or the original photo's event (if the user knows the original photo's event).
Possible solution:
When creating a duplicate of a photo, present the user with a dialog asking for some basic information:
-location
-name
-copy tags?
-copy rating?
Maybe these could be global settings, instead of a dialog.
Another possible solution:
Add a menu pick on a photo – “go to eventâ€, which would take the user directly to the photo's event.

This is actually a combination of bugs: a photo's tags are not being duplicated. Also, it's being assigned to the original's event but not immediately displayed in that view. (You must quit and restart Shotwell to see it.) I am seeing the photo's rating duplicated, however.
I'm adjusting this ticket's summary to reflect this.
Regarding the option to pick what is copied, I think we'd rather keep Shotwell simple on this count and merely make a full duplicate of the photo. If the user wants to adjust or remove various attributes on the clone, it's not difficult. However, if you want to make a case for this, I suggest opening a new ticket laying out how you'd like to see this feature implemented.
Finally, Shotwell does have a Jump to Event feature -- if you select a single photo, choose Events -> View Event for Photo. (Note that this option is not available when looking at an Event because it would merely take you to where you were standing.)

To be clear, this ticket now refers only to the outright bug Jim mentioned above: when a photo is duplicated, it is assigned to the original's event but is not immediately displayed in that view. I do think we should copy a photo's metdata when the photo is duplicated, but I'll create a separate ticket for that.

This was a simple fix, the photo is now added to the event and tags when it's duplicated.
