no progress bar displayed while writing metadata after restarts

To see the problem:
Start Shotwell with a library of at least 1000 photos.
Select all the photos and add a tag. You'll see a progress bar with a message “Writing metadata to files…â€.
While the metadata write is in progress, repeatedly exit and restart Shotwell. After some restarts, Shotwell will once again display the progress bar. After other restarts, Shotwell will not display the progress bar, although the metadata writing will apparently proceed anyway as indicated by the CPU meter.
Shotwell should always display the progress bar while metadata writing is in progress.
