Original description:
It's possible to import a file with a video file extension that is not a proper video file. Since we can't rely on GStreamer to verify file formats if the proper codecs are not installed, they get imported.
One pathological case is a zero-byte file being imported.
It would be nice if we had a sniffer system like PhotoFileSniffer that could, in the least, verify the file is the video file it purports to be. Simply checking for a magic value in the header would go a long way.
