Original description:
Reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/640215 :
What I expected to happen is when I plug an HTC Eris into a laptop
via USB, and press on the phone LCD “Mount as a disk driveâ€, all
available photos on the phone would be shown in F-Spot, as usual.
What happened instead is Shotwell came up and did not display all of
my photos, only one. However, I have many photos on the phone (please
see attached screenshot.png).

from the image attached on launchpad it seems like files with no extension were not imported

Good point. I also noticed that the files were in a .thumbnails directory. We could import those, of course, but I think the user is more interested in the DCIM photos themselves, which aren't shown in the screenshot. I'm going to query him for more information.

A user is also seeing this on a Kensington SD card with some odd behaviors:
I am seeing the same problem but with a Kingston 8GB SD card. Four JPEG files on the card, but shotwell is only showing one. …
I stopped shotwell, moved the pictures from the 102_PANA directory to the 101_PANA directory and restarted shotwell. Now shotwell saw all four pictures. I stopped shotwell, moved the pictures from the 101_PANA direcgtory back to the 102_PANA directory and restarted shotwell. Again shotwell saw all four pictures. I took another picture with the camera and then reinserted the card and started shotwell. Shotwell saw the fifth picture.

This might actually be improved by the pending patch for #5260; I noticed during dev that it would occasionally only show the first photo if spin_event_loop() returned false somewhere along the way while Shotwell was talking to the camera. Because event loop handling is managed elsewhere in that patch, the early-out conditions would never occur, causing all the photos to be loaded.
