Unable to change the display preferences after updating to latest version

Running Shotwell on fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.3 (Gnome 3.28.2) and updated Shotwell from default 0.27.4 to the latest version of Shotwell (0.30.7) and lost my display preference. The display options on Shotwell's edit->preferences menu doesn't change Shotwell's display color. When I select edit->preferences->Display:"Use Dark Theme", nothing happens. I was using the dark theme before I upgraded, then after I upgraded, the background was white even though dark theme was selected and I cannot get the dark theme back. I tried deleting and reinstalling but that did not help.
