Original description:
Each time the user opens a photo, we could notice whether the photo has changed externally and update Shotwell's state (including thumbnails) if so. We don't currently do this. One consequence of that is that if a photo has been rotated externally, it will appear warped when opened in Shotwell (#2467 (closed), which will soon be marked as a duplicate of this ticket since it's a special case).
This ticket is related to#2476. If that ticket is implemented, Shotwell will update its state when it sees photo changes during scanning (either in the startup scan or during real-time monitoring,#374 (closed)). This ticket refers to updating state when the user opens a photo.
If we implement real-time monitoring and have it on all the time and also implement#2476, then there may be no need to implement this ticket.
