Original description:
To see the problem, first make sure that System Monitor is running in your task bar so that you can see a graph of CPU usage. Import a large JPEG into Shotwell; then autoenhance it and also adjust the temperature slider so that the pipeline will have a lot of work to do. Double click the photo to open it. Now repeatedly grab the zoom slider, move it a few pixels to the right and release it. You'll see all of your CPUs (4 in my case) cranking away. Each time you release the zoom slider, Shotwell will begin a new asynchronous image decode operation. We should cancel each such operation when we begin a new one, but we do not presently do so.
