Original description:
I think if you think from a productivity point of view, the popup menu should have access to basic functions of the photo, like extended information. On any OS you can get the properties of the object you selected in the popup menu when you do a right click. This application should provide the same feature.

- Priority set to High
When we were at lunch with a couple of the EFF engineers yesterday, one of them said he had tried Shotwell but the absence of this feature had caused him to turn back! I think he never got as far as realizing that there was an Extended Information window – he looked for a Properties item in the context menu, didn't find it, and gave up. The other EFF engineer agreed he wanted this too. Upping to high.

We discussed. We've decided to rename the Extended Information window to Properties, as is typical for GNOME applications.
- The dialog will remain modeless as it is today.
- The View->Extended Information menu item will be replaced by File->Properties, which will have the standard GNOME icon and keyboard shortcut for a Properties menu item. This menu item will not have a checkbox.
- Properties will now appear in the photo context menu. It should be at the end of the menu.
- The View->Basic Information menu item will remain, but should be renamed to View->Photo Information.

This could be in conflict with the ideas detailed in #1918 (closed), which recommends merging the extended info in the basic information window.
I believe there is space for both ideas – ideally, one should be able to choose what gets shown in the basic information box and then a popup dialog could show more detailed information like color statistics, a full EXIF dump, file sizes and locations and so on…
