Original description:
Selecting multiple files while importing from camera can be confusing to regular people. Rubber-band selecting doesn't cut it. May I suggest a checkbox or simulate ctrl being held down automatically. Thanks :D
I believe picasa has a similar feature.

Thanks for the suggestion. Shotwell is designed to fit seamlessly into the GNOME desktop and to use the same user interface mechanisms as other GNOME applications. And so selecting multiple photos when importing from a camera in Shotwell works just like selecting multiple files in Nautilus. If you feel that multiple selection is too complicated in GNOME in general then you can bring that up with the Nautilus team or the people who write the GNOME interface guidelines. If Nautilus used checkboxes for selection, we would consider doing the same in Shotwell.
I'm marking this as wontfix.
