automatic creation of additional images files -- embedded JPEG extracted from DNG
Mandatory: Shotwell version the issue was seen with
shotwell/bionic-updates,now 0.28.4-0ubuntu1 amd64 Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS bionic
The expected behaviour
Yesterday after startup:
- Monitor specified directories for changes.
- Update library & thumbnails as necessary -- Do nothing else automatically.
- Finally wait for user input.
What was actually happening
Today after startup:
- New photo's have been found -- expected.
- Library & thumbnails have been updated -- expected. A duplicate and a triplicate photo have appeared -- unusual.
- Program responds to user input, but interaction was sluggish -- unusual.
- Additional image files where being created:
IMGPXXXX_DNG_embedded.jpg
andIMGPXXXX_DNG_shotwell.jpg
-- unexpected.Note that after Shotwell has completed updating the library & thumbnails, everything appears normal at first glance. Other than slow response to user input and some disk activity, there are no indicators to suggest that any background tasks are being performed.
Steps to reproduce the issue
In short: apparently automatic at start, and same result every time.
Steps:
