Since I bought a home server last week I have three computers at home now(server, netbook, desktop).
At the moment I use Shotwell only on my desktop because I would have to copy all pictures to my netbook to have access to them.
So I had the idea that it would be great if shotwell could run in server mode (maby as a service without the gui) and connect to it from my desktop and my netbook.
This could also be a solution for this enhancement idea:

This is loosely related to #1292 (closed) . And yes, we are interested in implementing some sort of photo sharing/syncing across a local network, though it might not happen for a few more releases.

I also use Shotwell on numerous computers on a network. Some of the difficulties have been fixed with the ability to save metadata to the files and sharing the pictures folder, but there are a number of things that still stay on each machine, like the event names etc.
Some sort of zeroconf sharing between desktop versions may be a simpler option.
