Import failed: no user has logged in

Description
I'm logging this bug from Debian 7 which has Seahorse 3.4.1.
Seahorse displays the message "Import failed: no user has logged in" when I attempt to import an SSH key, and prompts me to "cancel" or "import". If I select "import" again it prompts me for the label, when I enter the label and hit "ok", the screen disappears and the key is not displayed in seahorse.
On Ubuntu 13.10 with Seahorse 3.8.2 the import button doesn't even light up after putting in the passphrase to unlock the key.
On Ubuntu 13.04 with Seahorse 3.6.3 it works if I import into 'Gnome 2 Storage', but 'user key storage' has the "import failed: no user has logged in" error.
On Ubuntu 12.04 with Seahorse 3.2.2 it imports ok but Seahorse crashes, reopening it has the key there though.
On a personal note, is there any reason why this is so buggy? Am I using an odd key encryption? Do people not import their SSH private keys?
Any help much appreciated, thank you.
