MediaLibrary's filenames are too short to be usable in IconView mode
I somehow don't remember the iconview having such small thumbnails in the past, but maybe my memory is wrong... in any case, this screenshot struck me today as the filenames' text is essentially unusable:
If you take any of those files in the screenshot for example, and look at the "amount of crap characters vs amount of readable characters", let's say "...gle cal.png", you will realize that only 30% of the label is useful and readable. All the rest is noise. In bold here are the actual contents: "...gle cal.png"
There are three ways to fix this (which could all be used at the same time):
- Bigger (larger) thumbnails & column widths, which will give more width for the text to be shown
- Truncate the file extensions from the string before passing it to the model for automatic ellipsizing
- Allowing two lines of text (text wrapping) instead of only 1 line, if it's actually possible to tell that to IconView...
