Variable bitrate and constant bitrate confusing, bitrate ignored until you set CBR and set the bitrate to less than the default value
Render something in VP8 trying to set the "Target bitrate" value, and check the resulting filesizes each time.
- Render with default settings, take note of the resulting filesize (for comparison with all the other cases below)
- Render while setting the bitrate value to something like 128000 instead of 256000. Result: if you're not in CBR mode it will ignore it.
- If you change to CBR mode but have left the bitrate at 256000 (because you want more quality) it will ignore it.
- Only if you set both settings (CBR, and the bitrate value lower than the default), then render once, and then go back and set the bitrate value back to 256000 (unless you hit issue #2164 (closed)) will it allow you to actually encode at 256000.
This probably doesn't help (flatpak stable version):
