I haven't tested this patch, but Debian has been carrying it for a few years.

gedit's app ID is now org.gnome.gedit

By the way, GNOME's official text editor is no longer gedit and it has an app ID of org.gnome.TextEditor

Also recognize org.gnome.gedit as gedit
