Opening a folder with 10000+ files blocks actions for seconds
Steps to reproduce
mkdir test
cd test
touch file{00001..10000}.txt
- Open the folder in Nautilus and try opening a file or going to previous folder using top menu
Reproducible in:
- Flatpak unstable: yes
- Other: openSUSE Tumbleweed with GNOME 3.30 on Xorg
Current behavior
In case of opening a file, text editor (e.g. gedit) launches a couple of seconds later. In case of trying to go to previous folder, its contents display a couple of seconds later.
Mouse cursor during the wait indicates that Nautilus is busy.
UI itself is 'responsive' and double-click on three files will result in opening all of them sometime later. It seems like processing the list of files blocks the actions.
Expected behavior
One could expect a bit of lag when working with such 'crowded' folders, but this is slow and beyond normal. I also expect going to another folder in a blink, at least on a local filesystem.
Additional information
I did not expect such UI lags on a modern i5 desktop with an SSD. Thunar does not have this kind of lag, so I assume this is a performance issue worth reporting.
Disabling thumbnails in Nautilus had no effect.
Issue #293 (closed) is highly relevant, but in my case right click is just one of things with perceivable and annoying lag.
Thanks!
