Very bad window resizing
Steps to reproduce
- Try to resize the window
or
- Try to tile the window on an half of the screen
Reproducible in:
- Nautilus 3.26 (Debian unstable)
- Flatpak unstable (3.28.0-3a35b603 ?)
Current behavior
The minimum width of the window is huge, and can often be more than an half of the screen. It prevents side-by-side tiling, and makes manipulations between 2 directories really laborious.
Expected behavior
A reasonable minimum width should allow side-by-side windows.
Additional information
I had issues with the "previous" nautilus design:
- some long folders name were preventing side-by-side windows on my 1366×768 screen (which is the more common screen definition in the world afaik)
- all attempts to arrange windows side-by-side failed with my other (smaller) screen.
I had to remove the "maximize" button, and to use a more compact theme (Vertex or Materia-compact).
When i saw a redesign with a decent path-bar, i thought it would be better. But actually, it's worse! I can't tile the window on an half of my screen. Even with short folder names; even with Vertex.
You probably already know that, but please, don't forget poor users with no 23" screens:
- The "hamburger" menu is now totally useless and redundant, and should be removed
- There is no point showing so much empty spaces between the navigation buttons and the path-bar
- The 1st centimeter of the path-bar is empty for no reason (an inactive & invisible button ?)
