Add support for system file properties renamer template
Affected Version
- Laptop: Asus Zenbook S13 UM5302
- Version: 42.6 with Tracker 3.3.0
- Distribution: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
- Happens with development Flatpak: Yes
Use Cases
I'm using Genius Scan to scan some documents and send it to my drive. I have a template setup like that : YYYY-MM-DD_hh-mm-ss_FILENAME
where I just need to input filenames for the PDF and the date use the creation date of the file.
On my drive, every file hence need a timestamp, even if I did not scan it. For example, I downloaded my salary from my employer. I'd want to add the date on which I downloaded it, so that I can just filter by filename, and it will already be sorted out. So I'd need a [Modified date]
timestamp using a preconfigured format, for instance : YYYY-MM-DD_hh-mm-ss_
which is quite standard and following ISO6001 recommendations.
Other available system dates are :
- Creation date -> For when my employer generated the file or when I downloaded it.
- Modified date -> For when I update a backup file manually, from an Android app for example.
- Accessed date -> I have no use case personally
Available Workarounds
On Windows, I use Bulk Rename Utility, and it does the job perfectly :
I hear that linux has PyRenammer, Bulky or Thunar. But these are not from GNOME and can't be used with a simple right clic or selecting files and pressing F2. At least it's not as well integrated in the file explorer.
Difficulties
There is already a superb rename utility for bulk renaming using metadata. It would be really great if we could have access to the created, modified and accessed date as well so that I could create my timestamp from when I downloaded specific files.
