Ability to have multiple file properties open per window
Affected version
- Nightly flatpak: Can't test it because I can't install it because my /home is out of space
- Other: Pop!_OS 21.10 | GNOME Files 40.2
Use cases
I work in video production. I often need to check and compare the properties of two or more folders or files, such as size, codec, resolution, frame rate, etc.
When I work on macOS, on Finder, I can open multiple file properties, for each of the folders or files, side by side, to check their properties. Each new file properties dialog even opens and automatically positions itself side-by-side to the previous one, making it much faster.
But in GNOME Files, I can only have one file properties dialog per window.
Available features and workarounds
I have to open a new Files window, navigate to the folder of interest and open the second file properties dialog for that one. I then manually position the two file properties dialogs side-by-side.
Difficulties and insufficiencies
Unintuitive, and too many extra and repetitive steps.
Suggested enhancements
Let us open multiple file properties dialogs in the same Files window.
Additionally, when opening a new file properties dialog, check the position of the last one on the screen (on the horizontal axis), and automatically position the new one right beside it.
