A collection of bugs using the listed shotcuts
Version: 43.0 Hi, I've systematically tested each listed shortcut of Files, and I found a couple of bugs and quirks. I've decided to group them here and not open for each one a new issue.
- Alt + Home: doesn't work, should reposition to home page.
- Backspace: no longer goes to the parent folder, it's not listed but in previous version worked.
- left/right arrow: should "expand/ collapse folder", however it's unclear what they should do. In my opinion they should be removed. Also the description doesn't get translated to Italian.
- ctrl+pageUp/Down: in full-window, create a new tab without interacting with the first (like with ctrl+T), then if use the shortcut to go to the first one it shows a blank page, that gets redrawn only if you interact with the mouse or touchscreen.
- ctrl+1/2, layout button: in full-window, if you change the layout of the folders keyboard input stops working until you interact with mouse or touchscreen. This happens also when deleting files.
- ctrl+D: add a new bookmark. Sometimes it crashes with log in journalctl: segfault at 10 ip 00007f255392e5b2 sp 00007fff7941d7f0 error 4 in libgio-2.0.so.0.7400.1[7f255387e000+118000]. Sometimes it also crashes when removing bookmark with similar log.
- ctrl+?: works, but in journalctl shows a warning: GtkLabel 0x55ef109cdf00 (label) reported min width -5, but sizes must be >= 0
- shift+ctrl+down: doesn't work, should open file and close window.
- ctrl+o, alt+down: redundant with enter keyword
- there are two visual cursors: one that draws a full square, that get drawn when you select with the mouse, the other, a square outline, that gets drawn when you press TAB or shift+TAB. The second one seems to not have any effect, because if you press Enter it always open the file/folder selected by the first one.
- arrow navigation: this one is strange. When you open nautilus or enter a folder and you press the right/down keys the first selection gets only the second cursor, so you can't interact with it. Successive moves selects the item with both cursors, so you can interact with it. Also if you move the second cursor with TAB, and then you move with arrows, it moves from the second cursor.
- the touch-screen scroll works but is time-limited. The action gets interrupted after about 1 second.
- spacebar: this one is not listed in the shortcuts, only in the help pages, it should be added. It work, but the new window doesn't respect light/dark theme, it's always dark.
Next I would like to propose integrating the two-finger side scroll to go up or down the folders, like it's implemented in the browsers. This would greatly accelerate workflow with the touch-pad or touchscreen interface. This action in my opinion should be added also in the shortcut menu, to explore the different panels, but probably it has to get added in gtk. Next there is a lack of a fullscreen option, maybe activated with F11. A could open a new proposal for this one.
As a final note, the help pages are quite outdated, especially the ones referencing the preferences page. Also they are not reachable from "https://apps.gnome.org/en-GB//app/org.gnome.Nautilus/", the official page. The 'Learn more' and 'Project website' buttons at the bottom of the page link to the same website.
And of course: thanks for maintaining the gnome project.
