First / initial search in Nautilus with Tracker blocks for a long time
Affected version
- Nightly flatpak: untested
- Other: Nautilus 41 and earlier, tested on Fedora 35. I am unable to test on Nautilus 42 / Fedora 36 at the moment
Steps to reproduce
- Log out / reboot the system
- Log into your GNOME session
- Launch Nautilus
- Search for something
Current behavior
On a filesystem with lots of files, no matter if you are on a slow HDD or a super fast NVMe SSD, the initial cold Tracker search in Nautilus after the first launch on a fresh login, is extremely slow: it "blocks" for at least 10-20 seconds before launching the search. It feels as if it has to initialize Tracker by itself.
- This happens no matter the complexity of the folder/subfolder you are in; you could be within a folder with only a handful of files and no subfolder, and it would still "block" the UI like that for many seconds the first time you search on a freshly launched Nautilus in a fresh GNOME session.
- Subsequent searches are slow due to #1731 (closed), but less slow. The issue described here above is not caused by the search-as-you-type spammage, because it happens even if you paste a fully-formed search query in the search field.
Expected behavior
First search should be as "fast" as subsequent searches.
