iPhone photo thumbnails won't show (with Show Thumbnails set to 'All files')
Summary
When viewing photo and video files on an IOS device via nautilus, thumbnail previews do not display, even though the nautilus 'Show Thumbnails' setting is set to 'All files'.
Affected version
- Nightly flatpak: Yes
- Other: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, GNOME nautilus 42.0 with iPhone 7 and iPad running IOS 15.4.1
Steps to reproduce
- Open Nautilus.
- In GNOME Nautilus preferences, under 'Performance' set 'Show Thumbnails' setting to 'All files'.
- Connect an iPhone or iPad via USB-Lightning to the machine. Trust the PC from the iPhone, trust the iPhone from the PC etc...
- In the left bar of nautilus, 'iPhone' with a camera icon should appear. Click on it to open the directory containing 'DCIM'
- Open DCIM folder, then any subfolders which contain images, i.e. JPG, observe the image file icons / thumbnails.
Current behavior
Image & video files on the iPhone (JPG & MOV files on my iPhone) do not show a thumbnail preview, just an image file icon, when the nautilus setting 'Show Thumbnails' is set to 'All files'.
Expected behavior
Image & video files on the iPhone should show a thumbnail preview, not just an image file icon, when the nautilus setting 'Show Thumbnails' is set to 'All files'.
Additional information
When accessing external, USB drives and my google-drive from nautilus, image thumbnail previews work when the nautilus setting 'Show Thumbnails' is set to 'All files'. I have only had the problem with iPhone and iPad, but have not tested with Android. On Windows, the Windows file explorer shows thumbnail previews. From Googling I have seen that others have this issue, but I have not found a fix or bug report.
