folder/directory names as tags for search
Use cases
Hi, since tags and folders serve somehow the same purpose, i had the idea is to use (parent) directory names as tag-replacements without introducing additional meta data.
Desired behavior
Example:
- finances
- bills
- 2019
- 2020
- file a
- file b
- 2021
- file c
- file d
- taxes
- 2020
- file e
- file f
- 2021
- 2020
- bills
In this case we have the tags: finances, bills, taxes, 2020, and 2021.
- If you search "bills", you get files a, b, c, and d.
- If you search "bills AND 2020", you get files a and b.
- If you search "2020", you get files a, b, e, and f.
- If you search "2020 OR 2021", you get files a, b, c, d, e, and f.
And so on.
Benefits of the solution
- No additional organization layer
- No meta data
- Simple to use and understand
Possible drawbacks
I am aware of the discussion about traditional Tags in Nautilus, but think the presented approach could overcome the concerns.
