How to troubleshoot system halt on launching Space (file preview) on file but doing <any key> before preview in Debian?
This problem (halt when trying to do file preview, before the preview window appears; frequency of the issue about 1/100 cases) has persisted long time in Debian Stretch. It is connected to the preview feature in the file manager, which breaks the system if you type any other key before the loading preview window is successful. I do not find the approriate bug report about the case here in the Nautilus bug tracker. Procedure
- Press space to preview a file, etc a big .ppt/.pdf/... file.
- Try to move away from the file, while the system is loading the preview.
- Result: keyboard is not sensititive any more, only mouse moves, but no TTY switch works etc. Any active process will keep going on the system etc sounds but you cannot interact with them at all anymore: keybord stops working, but mouse works but does not interact with anything.
OS: Linux Debian Stretch 9.1
