Files pasted into home folder don't appear in gnome-shell search unless opened with an application first

After copying files from an external source into the home folder, they don't appear in the activities search unless they were opened with a program before at least once.

Affected version

Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome 3.36.04 Xorg

After copying files from an external source into the home folder, they don't appear in the activities search unless they were opened with a program before at least once.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Copy new files from an external source into your home folder.
  2. Do NOT open them with any program.
  3. Search for the files with the gnome activities search.

What happened

The files don't appear in the activities search.

What did you expect to happen

The files should appear in the activities search.

Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
