new sounds suck and are inconsistent
Recently my Nautilus on Ubuntu have automatically been updated. The current version is 3.14.3
Suddenly it has begun to make sounds as I navigate folders.
First of all, I remember this already happened ages ago with some other update. I don't remember what I did, but until recently it wasn't making any sound, so I guess back then I went to some settings and silenced it. So, (1) the first thing that is wrong is that whatever setting I had edited to turn off the shitty sounds has been reset by this update.
Besides that: (2) Navigating through folders in a file explorer is something too common to have sounds on by default. It's annoying. They should be DISABLED BY DEFAULT, period. I understand there might be a handful of people in the world who like them (not these ones in particular, of course), but the default should be Off. (3) These sounds are CRAP. They don't sound like anything that you may find in other OSes for this kind of scenario, they are too loud and bold, and they are just like "Bep", "Bop", nothing that remotely conveys the action that is being performed. Something reasonable would be a "click" sound, which would also be less annoying (4) The behavior is inconsistent and stupid: When you double click on a folder within the window to open it, it doesn't make any sound. But when you click on an item in the "breadcrumbs" on the top of the window, then it does make a sound. That makes no sense. Either you play sounds at all navigating actions, or none.
