Multi-touch Touchscreen Gestrues Prevent Multi-touch Application Input.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open an application that supports multi-touch. (I initially noticed this on Firefox with my own website https://playerone.kevincox.ca/)
- Interact using 2 fingers.
- Notice it works as expected.
- Try to interact with 3 or more fingers.
- Notice fingers are stolen by GNOME (for example 3 will enter "Swipe to overview")
Expected behaviour: There is a way to interact with multitouch applications up to the maximum number of fingers supported by my device.
I get that this isn't a "bug", it is working as intended. But it is very limiting that my device which supports up to 10 fingers can't use more than 2 on GNOME. Likely we should rethink how gestures are currently set up so that applications can utilize more than 2 fingers. Let me know if there is a better place to discuss this.
Most gestures seem fine to me, as they are less obtrustive. For example looking at https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/touchscreen-gestures.html.en "Open the Applications View" and "Bring down the notifications list" are probably fine, as they are tied to starting at specific areas of the screen but "Open the Activities Overview", "Switch Application" and "Switch Workspace" can be activated anywhere and completely steal mutli-finger input from applications.
