Resolution of monitor changes when I switch all monitors on
Affected version
- Arch Linux (up to date 2023-08-24).
- Gnome 44.4-1
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB with 3 1080p monitors
- Issue appears in Xorg
- Happens (with and) without extensions
Bug summary
I have a system with 3 identical monitors: Iiyama ProLite X2283HSU, connected via DVI-D, HDMI and DP. When I switch all of them off, then all on again without delay, the resolution of the monitor connected to HDMI is changed to a lower resolution. When I wait for the HDMI and DVI-D monitors to come on first, and then switch on the DP monitor the resolution for all monitors will be correct. This delay is a workaround. When the resolution of the left monitor is wrong I can also turn off the DP monitor, then turn it on again. This will also restore the HDMI monitor's correct resolution.
Steps to reproduce
- I boot the PC and log in to Gnome.
- Turn off the power to all 3 monitors.
- Turn on the power to all 3 monitors.
What happened
The resolution of the monitor that is connected to HDMI has changed and is much lower than before it was powered off.
What did you expect to happen
Nothing. The resolution should be unchanged as if the monitors were never off.
