Resizing X11 application above certain size is extremely slow
Affected version
- Fedora 38
- gnome-shell-44.3-1.fc38.x86_64
- Tested on Wayland, unknown if Xorg is affected
- Happens with extensions disabled as well
Bug summary
When I resize X11 based applications beyond a certain size, they continuously "hang" for a long time before continuing to resize. The triggering size seems to be the width of a monitor, but it doesn't matter if I cross a monitor boundary or not.
The time it hangs varies between applications, and I don't see any pattern.
Tested with TigerVNC and xterm.
I cannot see any such effects with Wayland applications. Tested with Firefox and GNOME terminal.
Steps to reproduce
- Start xterm
- Start dragging the window edge
What happened
Smooth resizing up to a point, after which it gets very jerky.
What did you expect to happen
Smooth resizing no matter the size.
