Cursor too dark
Affected version
- ArchLinux
- Mutter 44.2
- Wayland
- Hardware
- Radeon 6900XT with mesa drivers (23.1.2)
- 2x 3440x1440 Screen
Bug summary
The colors of the cursor are kinda wrong. For example the default Adwaita cursor has a slight gradient on it that gets completely lost or the Breeze cursors are supposed to be grey but are completely black instead. This effect is also visible on the login screen. The cursor looks normal on screenshots/in the screenshot UI.
Adding MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple
to my environment variables seems to "fix" this issue
I don't seem to get this effect on any other of my computers (laptop with intel iGPU & 1080p screen; another PC with NVidia (proprietary driver) & dual 1440p screens).
Steps to reproduce
- Start computer
- Look at cursor (maybe increase the size in accessibility settings before that)
- Open Screenshot UI with cursor enabled
- Compare
What happened
The cursor is darker than on the screenshot UI (where it looks like it's supposed to) and some darke features are missing because of it
What did you expect to happen
The cursor looks exaclty like in the screenshot UI

(Please ignore the Invalid monitor element 'vrr-allowed'
errors, I usually use mutter patched with the vrr MR and I just downgraded to test with vanilla)
