Unable to use triple monitor with gnome - dual GPU with NVS300 + onboard Intel Q45/Q43
Triple monitor works smoothly with HP dc7900 (Intel Q9550 ) Win10 desktop using NVS300 (x 2 DVI) + onboard Intel Q45/Q43 GPU (1 x VGA )
This same hardware setup malfunctions in ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS gnome 42.5
- When onboard VGA is set as primary display in BIOS, all three screens appear, but with very poor performance. Laggy and stuttery and is not usable in a work environment. Ubuntu settings show windowing system as X11 for graphics NVA8 / Mesa Intel Q45/Q43 (ELK) - there was no display choice at the log in menu - eg Xorg did not appear, just gnome
2.When NVS310 PCI is set as primary display in BIOS,then the two screen son the NVS 300 card are grey, and the Intel VGA screen is blank
I tested each GPU in isolation with gnome and found:
-
Onboard VGA Intel Q45/Q43 GPU works smoothly with one screen when Nvidia NVS300 PCI card is removed.
-
NVS300 dual display works smoothly with only two screens when selected as primary display device in BIOS and the onboard VGA is disconnected.
It appears gnome with Wayland or X11 can't handle both at the same time?
Any work around would be appreciated - I would like to not throw more e waste in to the dump - there are literally thousands of these office desktop units around the world, and we have quite a few here.
