Wacom tablet pen button mapping on X11 has no effect anymore since Gnome/Mutter 44
Affected version
Fedora 38 with Gnome/Mutter 44.0 on X11, in combination with a Wacom Intuos BT M and a Intuos Pen.
Bug summary
Gnome settings offers options to configure the Stylus button mapping. A changed button mapping is correctly applied on Wayland, but has no effect anymore on X11. This used to work on Fedora 37 with Gnome/Mutter 43 on both X11 and Wayland.
On a side note, the button mapping is never applied to flatpak applications when running Wayland, but that was already the case in Fedora 37 and is probably a different issue.
Steps to reproduce
- Login to an X11 session.
- Open Gnome setting
- Select Wacom Tablet and set eg. Button 1 from "Default" to "Right Mouse Click".
What happened
Nothing, button 1 still has the default mapping applied.
What did you expect to happen
Button 1 or button 2 should use the configured button mapping.
