GNOME Shell / Mutter 44 randomly failing to calculate the correct size to half-tile using the Super keyboard shortcuts

Bug summary & reproduction
When using Super+Left/Right to half-tile a window, the window manager will sometimes miscalculate the required dimensions and position of the window to tile. This appears to be random, because the results are randomized when you repeatedly press the same keyboard shortcut to tile/untile, as you can see in this video:
