The REW software stutters every 2-3 seconds for 0.25-0.5 seconds
Affected version
- OS: Fedora 34 and Fedora 35
- Mutter 40.4 and Mutter 41.rc
- This happens with the X11 and Wayland Session.
Bug summary
When using the software REW (Room EQ Wizard), a software for measuring speakers and finding room modes based on Java 8, the user interface of REW periodically freezes every 2-3 seconds for 0.25-0.5 seconds. I also tried a prerelease of fedora 35 with gnome version 41.rc and it had the same issue. This does not happen when using the kde desktop version 5.21 or 5.22, neither under x11 nor wayland.
Steps to reproduce
- Download and install REW.
- Use default values of the installer. Enabling OpenGL had no effect in my testing.
- Start REW.
- The issue is easy to spot when hovering between icons on the topbar very fast. The hover effect will hang with every stutter.
What happened
The software hangs every 2-3 seconds for a short time which makes it hard to use.
What did you expect to happen
REW should run without any periodic hangs.
