HDMI output on Lenovo P1 Gen3 goes into a bad output mode
Affected version
Fedora 33 / mutter 3.38 / Wayland RHEL 8.3 / mutter 3.32 / Wayland
Bug summary
Have a Lenovo P1 Gen3 with Intel graphics ONLY connected to an external 4k/60Hz display (Samsung LU28R). When connected via HDMI some period of time after the monitor goes to sleep, Gnome will no longer output the proper resolution. In Displays it indicates that it believes the monitor is 1024x768, and the monitor will refuse to auto-switch to this output.
Connecting via DisplayPort still works. Have to disable monitor in Display control to force Gnome to stop using it.
Steps to reproduce
- Get new P1 Gen3 from RH IT or other source.
- Connect external display via HDMI and be relieved. Set as primary monitor.
- Go to sleep
- Wake up, unable to use monitor or see any of the content on it.
What happened
Misread external display configuration and output invalid signal.
What did you expect to happen
External monitor to work at 3840x2180 at 60 Hz as it did when first connected.
