mutter creates black windows on remote X-window displays
Affected version
OS: Debian 10
Mutter: 3.30.2
Setup tested using two virtual Debian machines:
- A Debian 9 as X-server
- A Debian 10 as the X-client running xterm and mutter
Xorg problem
Bug summary
Running mutter will cause remote X-window windows go black
Steps to reproduce
- Set up environment with a remote X-window server
- Run an application showing the window on the remote X-server
- Run mutter on the host
What happened
The window from step 2 will go black Moving the window will also produce strange tears around the original window.
What did you expect to happen
Would expect to have the window managed by mutter, but still usable. The setup works fine using a Debian 9 as X-client using mutter 3.22.3 so it is a regression.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
