Emoji characters do not follow monospace grid
When I use meld to diff a file that contains emoji characters, the width of the emoji characters does not fit neatly into the monospace pattern. I would expect the emoji characters to be scaled to occupy either one or two monospace widths (depending on the character), as some other applications do (e.g. gvim or Emacs). In my case the characters are instead rendered slightly wider than two monospace characters. Here's an example of how meld renders the file locks.txt:

In both cases, the font is "Liberation Mono Regular 14".
