Description
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: control-center Severity: enhancement Version: GNOME2.8.3 unspecified Gnome-Distributor: Debian Synopsis: Window selector should have icons independently on menus Bugzilla-Product: control-center Bugzilla-Component: Window preferences Bugzilla-Version: unspecified Description: When chosing "no icons in menus" in the Menu&Toolbar preference, icons disappear also from the Window selector, where they are instead extremely handy.
Icons in menus can be nice but they are not really necessary because menus are already hierarchically ordered and programs are identified by a single (hopefully well-chosen) word or short phrase. So many users choose to switch off icons from menus.
Instead, windows lists contain window titles which are often cryptic; icons allow to rapidly identify which window has been produced by which program.
I therefore propose that either icons are always present in the window list of the Window selector, or that they can be switched on and off independentely from the choice made for menus. As a matter of fact, menus and window lists are not and should not be the same kind of object.
