Flatpak Spotify and libnotify 0.8.0 - "Ding" Notification on KDE
Hello !
I've noticed, with other users, that Spotify's current played song notification triggers a "ding" sound on KDE (flatpak version), since libnotify has been updated to use Desktop Portal Notification with snap and flatpak on the 0.8.0 update. There is also another issue related to this libnotify upgrade, which creates "missed" notifications on Gnome 42 with the same Spotify Flatpak package using libnotify 0.8.0 and up.
I have already reported this issue on the Spotify's Flathub GitHub, but there is maybe something else than just Spotify "falsly" making its notification, I don't have an answer for that.
This "Ding" sound is quite distracting while working and users had to rollback to the last version that was still behaving as expected, with libnotify 0.7.12, or disable notifications inside Spotify's settings.
I tried to edit the Notification settings of Spotify in KDE Settings, but it tells me that this application does not allow me to configure notifications depending on the type of events. I can just show or hide notifications, but none of those settings does make the "Ding" go away. Applications that does allow those notification settings to be adjusted makes possible to play a "Ding" or not.
I though I would bring this to your attention, as you maybe have an answer for that. I've been told the chances of getting a fix are close to none if this issue is Spotify's fault, but I cannot really understand how it would be their implementation, if it was working as expected before this shift to Desktop Portal Notifications.
Here's a few informations about my system :
- Manjaro "Ruah" 21.3.4
- Linux Kernel 5.18.12-3-MANJARO
- KDE Plasma 5.24.6 - X11
- KDE Frameworks 5.96.0 - QT 5.15.5
- Multimedia Framework : PipeWire
I hope I've been helpful in a way or another and that bringing this to your attention will make things move in the right direction. Thank you for your time and have a very great day !
