GVfsd mountpoint names contain special characters (smb-share:server=svrsvrsvr.local,share=name) which breaks usability with many software titles including Wine software
Could we replace the colons and other special characters (:.,=%) with more compatible underscores or something else, like the hyphen at the start in 'smb-share'?
Do they need to be there?
I have to copy files to my local machine and then upload them after editing. Libre Office and several other programs, including Wine programs, I use regularly can't load files from a gvfsd mount point.
It's rather reminiscent of working with an FTP client.
Had a look online as to how I can change the format of the mount points, as have many many others, to no avail.
I am surprised at the decision was made to break compatibility in such a way.
Unless it's hyper complex and software development has changed so much in the last 20 years, we could simply change these colons for hyphens and equals signs for underscores. Or, even better, allow us to specify the format of the mount points ourselves?
A formatting string like 'PROTO-
SERVER-SHARE_
FS' for example?
Sincere apologies if this question seems snappy, I'm just incredulous, we know how pathnames should be formatted.
However, if this is of no consequence to users who use GVfs in a different way, how do I become a developer or submit changes for review?
Many thanks for any advice or corrections anyone can give me.
