Allow icon view of images in application "Add Image" windows
Version information
- Linux Mint 20.1
- libgtk-3-0:amd64 3.24.20.
- Nemo 4.8.6
An enhancement request:
Example to illustrate
- Open, say, LibreOffice, and create a default document.
- Select Insert > Image and navigate to a folder with many images in it – preferably of small dimensions such as backgrounds.
- Navigate through the list of images with "Preview" selected. e.g. LibreOffice "Insert Image" window (example)
- Now navigate to the same image folder using Nemo file explorer set to "Icon View". Compare the facility of navigating through and selecting image files in this way with that of the "Insert Image" window in step 3 (above). e.g. Same images in Nemo
Some conclusions
The "Insert Image" window in LibreOffice Writer, for example, displays images as a list. As the thumbnails are too small to be seen effectively, "Preview" needs to be ticked. However, even with "Preview" enabled, there are drawbacks: i.e. (1) navigation through a list of files is slower than if they were displayed as icons; (2) only the currently selected image is visible in preview; and (3) very small images may be overmagnified and blurred.
Suggestion
Allow an option to display images as icons in "Load/Add/Insert image" windows (and the like) – just as they are in the Nemo file explorer.
