Recursive searching in file chooser broke
Steps to reproduce
- Attempt to search by typing in text in the file chooser
- Lists only matches in current directory, not in sub-directories
Current behavior
It searches only in the current directory.
Expected outcome
It recursively searches all sub-directories.
Version information
Using the "gtk-3-24" branch, Debian unstable, no gnome running.
I bisected this to: https://github.com/GNOME/gtk/commit/68bd429edd963973a34edfa326f4ec8882f185b0
It seems this was removed intentionally. However, I'm hesitant to use Tracker, for the following reasons:
- I don't want Tracker to index my full system, yet I may want search to work anywhere on it.
- I don't need any sophisticated features like tags, thumbnails, or full text search.
- I only need filename/path string matching.
- This should work on external drives too (i.e. Tracker would have to index the whole thing before search could work anyway, which would cause extreme delays etc.)
All in all the old behavior was ideal for this use-case.
Could this feature be brought back? Possibly under a disabled-by-default option.
