3.31.92: Applications launched from gnome-shell don't have window focus on Xorg

Gnome-shell version: 3.31.92

Distro: Ubuntu 19.04

In gnome 3.32 (under a xorg session), I see that many applications do not gain window focus when they are opened. For example, I can re-create the following 100% of the time:

  1. Login to a fresh gnome (xorg) session

  2. hit the super key to open the gnome-shell overview

  3. search for gnome-terminal

  4. hit enter to launch gnome-terminal

The terminal opens, but the window is not focused (you need to click the window to get focus)

Other applications I can re-create this issue with:

Nautilus

Gnome-system-monitor

Gnome-logs

NOTE: This only happens in the Xorg session. Under wayland, the applications do get focus

NOTE: If I launch any of these applications from a terminal, instead of through gnome-shell, they do get focus

NOTE: This only seems to happen when the applications are launched from the 1st workspace. If I open some application in the 1st workspace, and then switch to a second workspace and launch any of these applications (in the second workspace), they do get focus.

Applications that I do NOT see the issue with:

Gedit

Gnome-calendar

NOTE: I have all gnome-extensions disabled, and am running a vanilla gnome-session (so I do not have ubuntu's default gnome extensions enabled either)
