Export set of sheet to new workbook

Submitted by Geoffrey Cahoon

Link to original bug (#417620)

Description

I would like the 'move/copy sheet to a new file' function like in Excel and OO. After cell formulas, this is the most important feature for me. I do construction management. Rapidly producing new copies of a particular sheet, in a new document, complete with altered column widths and cell formatting, is essential. I must quickly price alternates, and send specific pages of a large workbook to clients during billing and monthly reports. Copying a whole workbook with 22 sheets and then deleting 19 of them is silly. If absolute references to other sheets break, I can fix those. My brother is VP of an engineering company, and a heavy Excel user. When I showed him Gnumeric, it was lack of this ability that made him dismiss it as not usable.

Also, this is not your fault, but in Puppy Linux, when I press the upper left 'select the whole sheet' button, then press copy, Gnumeric hangs. I am guessing the data is probably larger than the Puppy clipboard app. But if I only highlight the cells with data, the copy works fine. Could the whole sheet select automatically exclude empty, default format cells from the copied data?

Other information: For me, the size and responsiveness of Gnumeric are wonderful. I would like to have an older tablet machine and use Gnumeric as my only spreadsheet, probably running Puppy, but I can't quite do it yet. But OO is just too big. Thanks for a wonderful app so far.

Geoff
