Mixed font styles within cells not visible

I found this occurs on at least:

gnumeric 1.12.46 to 1.12.50 on an up to date Arch installation
gnumeric 1.12.48 on an Ubuntu 21.10 live session, but not an Ubuntu 21.04 live session (shown on comparison image)
