Gnumeric 1.12.47 on MacOS 10.15.5 (via Brew): Tools > Scenarios not working properly
Hi, found a bit of a problem with Gnumeric on MacOS.
I'm trying to use Scenarios to see the effect of changing commission.
- First problem: the help functions don't work on MacOS:
(gnumeric:18807): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: 12:54:55.357: No default handler found for url scheme 'ghelp'.
First workaround: Access Gnumeric Help via Google.
- Second problem: the scenario function isn't documented: https://help.gnome.org/users/gnumeric/stable/gnumeric.html#sect-advanced-analysis-scenarios
6.5. Analysis using scenarios
6.5.1. Adding new scenarios
6.5.2. Viewing and managing scenarios
6.5.1. Adding new scenarios
6.5.2. Viewing and managing scenarios
Second workaround: View help for Excel's Scenarios online: https://www.excel-easy.com/data-analysis/what-if-analysis.html#create-different-scenarios
- Third problem: the scenario function generates a blank report.
Steps:
- Click on the cell you're going to change for these scenarios
- Tools > Scenario > Add..., type in the scenario name, click save.
- Change the cell
- Tools > Scenario > Add..., type in the scenario name, click save.
- Tools > Scenario > View...
- Click on first scenario
- Click on 'Create Report', get error 'Results entry did not contain valid cell names'
- Click 'ok'
- Click 'Options'
- Click cell picker icon, choose result cell, click cell picker icon again
- Click 'View'
- Click 'Create Report'
- View new sheet:
Scenario Summary
| Current Values | Scenario 1 | Scenario 2
Changing Cells: |
It isn't filling in the table. Screen_Shot_2020-07-12_at_1.28.12_PM
Third workaround: none
- Fourth problem: When you try to delete the scenarios to try again, the last scenario can't be deleted (the delete button is disabled).
Fourth workaround: Click 'ok', then open Tools > Scenario > View... and then you can delete the last scenario.
Also, I managed to get a Segmentation fault: 11
while adding a scenario (typing the name) and gnumeric crashed, but it's not reproducible. MacOS sent a copy of the stack trace to Apple.
Hope this has been helpful!
Thanks!
