Chart size in xls export.
From chat: Ii is claimed that the size of charts changes when saved in xls format:
smc> Hello! When I make a spreadsheet which contains a chart, and save it in MS Excel format, the chart appears hugely oversized when the file is reopened. Bug? Could it be fixed?
smc: please elaborate: What are you saving in MS Excel Format? The screenshot? Or a spreadsheet with the pasted screenshot? What MS Excel format? xlsx?
Thanks for your reply. Well, the thing happens when I save any spreadsheet file containing a generated diagram. I can resize the diagram on the spreadsheet freely, but once saved on XLS format (thanks for the disambiguation request), and the saved file reopened, the diagram has reset to the huge oversized. There were also three versions of XLS format available in the saving dialog, the same thing happened with all of them except the
oldest one, which lost the diagram entirely, maybe that version didn't support diagrams in first place. But the two other XLS formats save the diagram otherwise, but loses its size. And the size where it "resets" itself when reopening from XLS file is far bigger (really abnormally oversized) than the original default size the diagram appears when it is created.
I just tested whether this bug appears with XLSX format, it didn't. Saved and opened perfectly with that, just like with gnumeric format. But the XLS format saving seems to have the bug.
Btw, there seems to be an oddity I don't get on the available XLS format versions on the saving dialog: one is "MS Excel 5.0/95", second "MS Excel 97/2000/XP", and the third is combined of those both "MS Excel 97/2000/XP & 5.0/95". How does the combination version differ from the newer of those combined, and what advantages (and disadvantages?) it has over that? Anyway, the 5.0/95 format was the one that lost the diagram entirely, maybe
bug or maybe normal if that format version doesn't support diagrams in first place, but those two others retained the diagram but lost its sizing.
