Escape and/or Ctrl+W keyboard shortcuts should allow closing a note opened in a tab, instead of quitting the whole application
Recent versions of gnote use tabs instead of individual floating windows for notes; however, its keyboard shortcuts for tab vs window management have not yet been adapted.
Since Ctrl+Q
is already mapped to closing the application and all notes opened in tabs, I thought Ctrl+W
would be assigned to closing the current note only, however it closes the whole application, which is unexpected and makes me lose the workflow I was in.
Instead, the Ctrl+W
shortcut, and Esc
(when it's not already used for something else, such as closing a menubutton's popover widget or cancelling a selection, for example) should be mapped to closing the current tab, if any.
Gotchas:
- Only when there is no opened note tab (or when the
Esc
keyboard shortcut is mapped, at least) does it make sense forCtrl+W
to close the remaining main window (effectively quitting the application). - The
Esc
shortcut, on the other hand, should not close the application even if there is only the main window remaining.
