Figure out what to do with inaccurate automatic geolocation when MLS is retired in 2024

WiFi-based geolocation was outdated / a bit inaccurate since 2020, but in 2024 this will stop working altogether, as per the link above, and the implications explained here.
What should GNOME Weather do with this, should it still trust broad IP-based regional geolocation for guessing the nearest METAR station, or should it turn off geolocation entirely and rely only on manual METAR / city searching, with the caveat that the list of cities is not exhaustive (issue #247)?
The other reason I'm filing this as a RFC and tracking issue for all the gazillion duplicates @aklapper and I will be seeing in the coming months/years, so they can be marked as duplicates of this here. There's already way too many currently unactionable tickets in the Locations tag...
