Evince should offer the option to resume where you left off
Use cases
When you need to reboot or shutdown your machine, or even after logging out, you might want to come back to where you left off next time you open evince
, especially when having multiple documents open.
Some examples that I have experienced/seen:
- engineers/researchers having documentation/datasheets/publications
- accountants/CPA having client's documents open to enter values into their financial management software
- students having their books/handouts/course readings
Desired behavior
Evince should offer an option to pick up where you left off and open back the document(s) which were open before the machine was rebooted or shut down, or if the user logged out. (It might be controversial, but I would even consider making this the default behavior).
Benefits of the solution
Users would be able to pick up where they left off, without opening one-by-one every document they had open before logging out/rebooting/shutting down.
Possible drawbacks
Some work might be needed to prevent resources no longer accessible (e.g. documents opened on a share not mounted anymore) or even maybe when some corner cases if too many documents need to be open at the same time.
